DevSquared 2019 Year-End Review

2019 was a great year for DevSquared. We just wanted to take a few minutes to reflect on what we accomplished this year, while looking ahead to what we want to get done in 2020.

Busier than Ever

In addition to the regular software support that we provide for a variety of clients, this year we completed 18 new software development projects. This kept us very busy throughout the year, which is just the way we like it. Many of the projects were completed with our preferred software stack – ASP.Net Core for the back-end, Vue.js for the front end. However, we also completed projects with a variety of other technologies, including PHP, WordPress, and Nodejs. We have several projects in flight currently and hope to keep this momentum going into 2020!

We worked with our clients this year to deploy a lot of new projects!

Growing the Team

We were fortunate to welcome two additions to the team this year – Lydia Winters and David Sexton. Lydia is a part time front-end developer and designer, and David is a part time back-end developer. It’s been great to have them on board, and they bring a lot to the team!

We also got to bring on several students from Pittsburg State University for semester internships. It’s great to have Pitt State nearby, and to have a partnership with them that allows us to work with students!

It’s been awesome to have David and Lydia on the team

Working with Community Partners

2019 was our first full year located in The Foundry at Block22 in downtown Pittsburg. Being in this prime location has allowed us to form a plethora of community partnerships. We work closely with Pittsburg State University, who runs Block22, as well as the City of Pittsburg, the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, and Pittsburg Area Young Professionals to form connections and make sure we understand the needs of the local community and how DevSquared can help to meet them. We look forward to creating many new partnerships in 2020!

Earlier this year, we presented at a conference with Pittsburg State about the work we do together

Educational Initiatives

This past summer, we launched a series of educational initiatives with the long-term goal of future prosperity for Southeast Kansas. You can read more about the motivation behind some of this here. To recap – we held the first ever Pittsburg Coding Camps for K-12 kids this summer, to get kids excited about a future in coding, and with the hope that they’d bring great software development jobs to Pittsburg and the surrounding area someday.

Students worked with a variety of technologies to learn coding this summer

We also started SEK Dev Connect – the only developer meetup in the area. It was very exciting to see developers from all over SEK and beyond getting together for a conference style talk, a meal, and to get to know each other. SEK Dev Connect starts again in February – we hope to see you there!

Our monthly developer meetups have been a huge success!

Finally, we ended the year with an Hour of Code event for K-12 kids during National Computer Science Education Week. This was a great way to close out the year and head into the holidays!

What’s Next?

We’ve got big plans for 2020. Here’s just a few of the thing we want to accomplish:

  • Continued growth: We took on a lot of projects in 2019. We want to continue this trend and complete even more in 2020. We’ve been thrilled to work with a lot of great regional clients and want to continue to expand beyond that and work with clients through the Midwest.
  • More education: We look forward to continuing to focus on education in 2020. Keep an eye out for coding camps once again this summer, along with our SEK Dev Connect events. Additionally, we hope to be able to provide more adult programming education as well!

We’re excited to see what the future holds! If you think DevSquared can help you with your software development or training needs, don’t ever hesitate to contact us. Happy New Year!
